Today we spent the day in the  West -Tooling and Workholding building.  The new cutter technology from Sandvik, Kennametal, Iscar and others is far beyond were it was 2 years ago.  We spent about 2 hours this morning networking with the Haas Tech group in the Student summit area, this will allow us to be equipped with different part prints and sharing of program information.  This afternoon we met with DMG/Mori Seki group about the new technology they have to offer.  The Eco machines are the latest line, they are like the Haas Eco machine that leave a much smaller footprint then our machine in the lab.  Tonight we once again have Whitesox tickets. Tigers 9 - Whitesox 2..Dinner was at Ali’s Italian Beef  http://www.alsbeef.com/.  Ali’s place was good..it was across the street from Gino’s east…I would much rather have gone back to Ginos…LOL  We will be home this weekend, and back in the lab starting Monday.

WOW…today we spent all day in the Metalcutting area (South Building).  The technology is there..Haas has all of their machining starting in 2010 Eco machines.  All companies have at least 5 axis machining..micro machining and laser machining is gaining speed.  We were interviewed by a reporter from splash communications on how we use ToolingU and what we thought of the SME/ToolingU merger.  Dinner looks like Gino East again…Got to get it while we are here…Not sure they would taste the same having them mailed to us.  Tomorrow is the Last area.. West building (we call it the swap meet).

WOW.. just when you think you walked all you can…Day two makes a repeat.. We spent most of our day in the North Building but never seemed to get very far. try more in the North building again tomorrow..we did a lot of Public relations with some colleges in the midwest.. We ran into a field trip of high school students and we spent time talking with the instructors…We did however spend time at one of the Robot Combat Arenas that is a really interesting challenge.

Dinner was great… Weber Grill..another place you should try when in Chicago.  http://www.webergrillrestaurant.com/

The instructors are in Chicago at the International Manufacturing Technology Show.  It is our first day at the show..we spend all day in the East building..  Measuring and inspection…EDM..CAD/CAM..What we did for the program…Mastercam has X5 coming out soon to education, we spent time with Starrett and found some show sales prices for bore gaging for our inspection area.  Just for us…we spent time in the American Precision Museum E-4771 area.  It is still amazing to see where machining has come from the 1900 to today.
