“Si Se Puede”, or “Yes I Can”. And yes they did, get scholarships!! Wednesday night was a night of celebrating the wonderful achievement of Hispanic students and their successes at the Tech College. “Si Se Puede” is a part of our recognition of October as Hispanic Heritage Month. The theme for this years celebration was “Getting Involved: Our Families, Our Community, Our Nation”. And getting involved is exactly what happened. This is an event that the community takes a great part in. Everything from the food to generous donations for scholarships and the entertainment, make this an event that truly involves “Our Community”. Food for the evening was provided by local restaurants and markets, and was delicious!!! As people ate the wonderful food, they were able to listen to Nubia Pena, Miss Latina Utah 2006-07 speak about the need for strong communities and families. One of the College’s outstanding students, Zuli Hagmann spoke about the critical role that education has played in her life, and how scholarships have allowed her to get an education. Entertainment was provided by a group of local musicians, Sporty G, A.L.G., and Lil Oso. All of this was a wonderful build up to the presentation of the scholarships. Nine OWATC students were given scholarships that will allow them to continue furthering their education. We are proud of these students for all of their hard work and their future goals that this scholarship will help to in fulfilling. The students who received scholarships are:
- Kristy Boris – Medical Assisting
- Arlene Enrique-Torres – Cosmetology
- Gustavo Nunez – Machining
- Anissa Torres – Cosmetology
- Santiago Villanueva – Industrial Automated Maintenance
