There have been a few questions regarding the Personal Health Assessment that I would like to share and clarify for all employees wishing to participate in the Healthy Habits Challenge.

1.  What information do I need to conduct a Personal Health Assessment?

You will need to know your height, weight , waist girth, blood pressure, glucose (blood sugar), cholesterol and triglyceride values.  These results should not be older than a year to get an accurate assessment.

You may contact your health provider for these results or use the results given to you at the Know Your Numbers Health Fair that we conducted in November 2009.  The results of the screening were placed in your Know Your Numbers Journal.  You may use these results to help you fill out your assessment.

If you still do not have all of the information you need, complete the assessment as best as you can.  You can return later to add or update information.

2.  Can I still earn my 300 points if I do not complete my Personal Health Assessment this week?

YES!!  The emphasis is to complete it this week but as long as you have it done by the end of the program on April 30, 2010, you can claim your 300 points.

3.  Do I  have to maintain all of the healthy habits throughout the program?

The intent of the program is to develop certain health activities into daily healthy habits.  However, you will only earn points for the health activity specified for that week except for the Personal Health Assessment points that can be earned up until the end of the program.  For example, during week two, you will earn points each day you engage in physical activity for at least 30 minutes.  During the remaining weeks, we would like for you to continue exercising but you cannot further claim points for physical activity.

Remember, that the attached GBS tracking sheets are only intended to help you track your daily activities.  You do not have to use them and the file name may not correspond to the actual week number in our program.  For example, the Food Journal tracking Form has a # 2 in the file name but we are focusing on doing a food journal during week #3.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Today is the day the Healthy Habits Challenge Begins!

Remember, whether you are a salaried or part-time employee you may participate!

Please review the attached packet.  It explains the healthy habits you will be focusing on each week.

The instructions are included on the first page of the packet.

Also, Attached is the Healthy Habits Tracking Log where you will be logging your daily, weekly and bonus points.

GBS Benefits Inc. has given us permission to use some of their tracking forms to help you keep track of your daily healthy habit activities for the week.  Feel free to print them off and use them as needed or make up your own!

In our effort to go “Green” we have made it possible for you to be able to review the packet and document your points directly on the forms themselves.  Except for the tracking forms from GBS You do not have to print any of the forms if you do not want to.

Should you have any further questions feel free to contact me or any of the other Wellness Council Members.

Cancer in America is the second leading cause of death.
The American Cancer Society cited that there were 565,650 cancer deaths in 2008 attributed to poor nutrition, physical inactivity, overweight, and obesity.

The American Cancer Society also cited 170,000 cancer deaths in 2008 were attributed to tobacco use alone!

Each and every one of us today has been affected by cancer; perhaps a close friend or family member; perhaps even ourselves have been affected.

In honor of our close friends and family members we may have lost to cancer and in celebration of our cancer survivors please come and learn the facts at our Cancer Awareness Event (information display)

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in the Union Building 11:00 am to 1:00 pm  (Open to Students and Employees)

An American Cancer Society Representative will be present to answer questions but will not be doing a formal presentation.

Please pass this information along & post the fliers!!

Sincerely,

You’re Wellness Council

Dear employees,

On behalf of the Wellness Council, we would like to thank each and every one of you that participated in our first OWATC Walking Program. I would especially like to thank Jody Cevering and Anita Ruiz who were instrumental in heading this activity. They did a wonderful job!! We hope you enjoyed this activity as well and the Wellness Council plans to offer other wellness activities in the future. Jody Cevering will soon be sharing the final Walking Program Spreadsheet with grand totals for each team.

The council would like to get your constructive feedback regarding the walking program to help us improve the wellness activities we offer to employees. Even if you did not participate, we would tremendously appreciate your ideas on future wellness activities. We also would like to know if you would be interested in assisting the Wellness Council in the coordination of future specified wellness activities and events.

The survey will only take 5 minutes. Please follow the link below.
